Hitsugi no Chaika is a light novel adaptation of Ichirou Sakaki. An adaptation in anime was announced in July 2013 and began airing on April 9, 2014, scheduled to end on June 25, with 12 episodes. The second season of the anime has been confirmed and is due to be broadcast in October 2, 2014.
Toru Acura is a 20 -year -old retired soldier winding through the post-war life. He meets Chaika Trabant, a witch 14 years carrying a coffin, and follows in the hope of finding some semblance of meaning to his life. Both are accompanied by Toru adopted sister Akari, the only salaried member of the group and so their source of livelihood.

Chaika - The Coffin Princess Characters:
Chaika Trabant
She is a 14 year old sorceress who runs into Toru Acura and picks him up as a traveling companion, along with his sister Akari. Chaika is a mage who carries a giant coffin around with her. She excels in high-precision spells, and she's also sensitive about the thickness of her eyebrows.
Toru Acura
He is a 20 year old saboteur from the Acura Village. Once peace was restored along with the downfall of the Gazu empire, Toru lost his way of life. He hopes to find meaning to his life again by running around with a sorceress named Chaika Trabant.
Fredrika
She was the former dragoon of Dominica Skoda. After meeting and losing with Chaika and co., she decided to join them in attempt to get revenge on Toru. She occasionally disappears and reappears throughout the story.
Akari Acura
She is Toru's adopted sister. Like her brother, her profession also a saboteur. But since the end of the war, she has solely been their main source of income. She is very attached and overly fond of her brother. When Toru decides to follow Chaika, she also chooses to travel with them.
Chaika Bogdan
Gaz is a 14 years old swordswoman who is in search of Arthur Gaz's remains and to kill the Eight Heroes and the ones who abandoned the Gaz Empire.
Viivi Holopainen
She is an assassin who works for Post-war Reconstruction Implementation Agency, Kleeman under the Gillette Corps. She is an orphan. It has been hinted that Viivi has a crush on Gillette.
