Extreme-Black Brynhildr is a manga science fiction written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto. The story also features an adaptation anime by Studio Arms, which began airing on April 6, 2014.
When he was young, Ryota Murakami was friends with Kuroneko, a girl his age, who believed in the existence of aliens. Seeing skeptical Ryota Kuroneko decides to find a way to prove it, but a tragic accident occurs: Ryota is seriously injured while Kuroneko dies.
Now high school student, Ryota can not forget his childhood friend. In order to keep his promise to prove the existence of aliens, he enrolled in the astronomy club at his high school. One day, a girl named Neko Kuroha, exactly like his childhood friend, arrives in her class. However, the girl says that she does not know, and reveals an accident in which he is going to die is about to happen.

Neko Kuroha
She is a rank B Magician that escapes at the beginning of the story. She is also the Vice President of the Astronomy Club, and one of Ryouta's main love interests. Her birthday is on September 15. Her reseach number is 7620.
Hatsuna Wakabayashi
She is one of the supporting characters in Brynhildr in the Darkness. She is a magician that possesses the power of regeneration.
Kazumi Schlierenzauer
She is a witch and one of the main protagonists of Brynhildr in the Darkness. Her research number is 2670. She is a member of the Astronomy Club.
Kotori Takatori
Her lab's number is 1107. She is a member of the Astronomy Club. She is also a magician who escaped with the other magic users and found a place to live with another Magic User named Chie. Due to running out of medicine and wanting Kotori to expierence her own birthday, Chie sacrificed her life so that Kotori could survive.
Ryouta Murakami
He is also the President of the Astronomy Club. He is highly intellectual as he is able to think of strategies to help the Witches survive. He lives his life as a normal highschool student, but that facade is broken whenever he thinks about the incident with Kuroneko.
Kana Tachibana
She is the mascot of the Astronomy Club. She is a ranked C Magician. Her research no. is 4010. She is overall a kind and caring girl, although she can be quite mouthy and rude especially towards people she is not close with. She is also willing to endure much to protect her friends, proven by her choice to lose her power of foresight in order to save Neko.
Mako Fujisaki
She has a sociopathic personality. However, she is shown affectionate towards her sister, Neko. She take lives lightly and kills almost anyone in sight that is considered rude to her. She harbors an unrequited love for Ichijiku Chisato after saving her from melting in the middle of a failed experiment, even though he did it in order to use her.
Nanami Tokou
She is a unique AA+ rank magician and former Antagonist. She is one of the magicians who has a tragic ending. Her laboratory number is 5210.
