Tokyo Ghoul is a manga written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. An adaptation in anime produced by Studio Pierrot is broadcast between July and September 2014 on Tokyo MX. A second season titled Tokyo Ghoul √A is broadcast in January 2015.

A Tokyo is experiencing a series of strange and bloody murders due to the presence of ghouls, monsters who view humans only as prey and that you can only feed on their flesh. Ken Kaneki is a university student, devoted to the study and reading, knows that one day in a bar Rize, a fascinating own age: in fact the girl is herself a ghoul and Ken soon becomes his prey.
Rize attracts some pretext Ken in an isolated place where he seriously injures with the repeated attacks but, before he could devour, dies hit by a series of iron beams which fortunately falls from a building under construction at that time. The boy was rushed to a hospital where the surgeon of his operation, in an act of desperation, decides to submit it to an organ transplant, taken right from the body of Rize. Survived the impossible, Ken soon begins to understand, however, being himself become a sort of ghoul in a city strewn with these monsters, where everyone, to eat, has to "hunt" in its territory.

Ken Kaneki / Haise Sasaki
Formerly a human studying Japanese Literature at Kamii University, and first living a normal life, his life was soon changed after he had Rize's kakuhou transplanted into him and became a One-Eyed Ghoul.
Kishou Arima
He is a famed Special Class Ghoul Investigator known as the CCG's Reaper. He is undefeated as a Ghoul Investigator and at some point was formerly partnered with Take Hirako.
Touka Kirishima
In Tokyo Ghoul, she was a second-year student at Kiyomi High School in the beginning and a third-year student after the post-Aogiri timeskip.
Rize Kamishiro
She is a ghoul that was hanging out at Anteiku. She set her eyes on Ken Kaneki, but moments before eating him, she was injured in an accident and her organs were transplanted in Ken Kaneki, making him half-ghoul.
Shuu Tsukiyama
He is the infamous Gourmet ghoul. He is a fourth-year student studying Social Welfare at the Department of Human Sciences at Haruna Gakuin University.

He owns the HySy ArtMask Studio, where he sells bespoke masks. In his teenage years, he was known as No Face to the CCG investigators in the 4th ward.
Juzo Suzuya
He is an Associate Special Class Ghoul Investigator. He was first assigned to the 20th ward and was responsible for the investigation of the Binge Eater. He is currently assigned to the 13th ward and is investigating the ghoul Nutcracker, along with his squad.
