Yo-Kai Watch is a video game for Nintendo 3DS from developer Level-5 in which the protagonist must identify different monsters and creatures from Japanese mythology and help people suffering problems due to the intervention of these. The great success of the original game has led to the creation of several sequels, a manga and an animated series.
The adaptation animated television series produced by the studio OLM with a realization of Shinji Ushiro. It began on January 8, 2014 TV Tokyo. An animated film is scheduled for December 20, 2014.
One day, while walking in the woods of Sakura New Town, a boy named Keita Amano falls on a particular machine capsule near a sacred tree. When he opened one of the capsules, it shows a youkai named Whisper, which gives Keita a device known as the Youkai Watch. By using it, Keita is able to identify and to see many youkai that haunt people and cause harm. Overall, Keita and Whisper start to become friends with all sorts of youkai met, then it can invoke to fight against the malicious youkai who live in the city.
Yo-Kai are the collectible monsters of Yo-Kai Watch. They are divided into various classes that define their basic areas of strength or rarity. Each class has its own special song that is played when the Yo-Kai is summoned in the anime or in play with the toy Yo-Kai Watch.
Youkai Watch Characters:
Keita Amano
He is an 11-year-old boy who lives in Sakura New Town, he is extremely average in all manners, a fact that bothers him. While out in the forest, he happens upon a derelict sacred tree and a capsule machine. After he buys one of the capsules, it opens up to reveal Whisper who introduces him to the Yo-Kai and gives him the Yo-Kai Watch.
Whisper
Whisper is the self-appointed ghostly butler to Keita after Keita frees him from the Gashapon. He helps Keita understand the Yo-Kai World and its interactions with the human world. Whisper appears to be very knowledgable about the Yo-Kai, but he in fact uses a tablet computer called the Yokai Pad.
Jibanyan
Jibanyan is the ghost of a cat who died being hit by a car when crossing an intersection in Sakura New Town. He has since become a residual haunting and possesses people to make them cross the street without waiting for the signal, all so he can attempt to fight the cars in revenge for his death, but he often fails.
Fumika Kodama
She is highly intelligent, but is worried that she does not meet her mother's standards. She is an alternate choice for the main character in the video game version and possesses a Yo-Kai Watch that hangs around her neck rather than one worn on her wrist.
Gorota Kumashima
Known as Kuma for short. A boy in Keita and Fumi-chan's class who looks like a bully but is actually a very good friend.
Kanchi Imada
Keita and Fumi's classmate. He does not believe in ghosts or monsters, and is very intelligent.
