It is a manga created by George Morikawa which tells the beginning and the rise of a young student in the world of boxing professionally.
An adaptation in anime with 76 episodes covering the first 30 volumes of the manga was carried out by Madhouse and broadcast on Nippon Television between October 2000 and March 2002. A second season of 26 episodes called Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger was then posted between January 2009 and 30 June 2009. A third season is scheduled for October 2013.
Ippo Makunouchi is a young and shy 16-year-old schoolboy has no friends because he spends all his free time to help his mother, who is a single mother in the family business rental fishing boats. It is usually a victim of bullying and humiliation by a gang of thugs led by Umezawa, one of his classmates.
