The manga and anime depict the life and adventures of Ryoma Echizen, both on the court and off of it. Ryoma joins the Seishun Gakuen Middle School tennis team or Seigaku Team and he quickly defeats numerous upperclassmen shortly after entrance to secure himself a spot as one of the regulars on the team.
In pursuit of his ultimate goal of winning the championship tennis junior high school all-Japan team members to make new friends while learning and mastering increasingly complex techniques. Ryoma also begins to develop his own style of tennis, and eventually realizes what the sport really means.
Prince of Tennis Characters:
Ryoma Echizen
He makes his first appearance when he criticizes a high school student about his knowledge of tennis. As the main character, Ryoma is among the most popular characters in the series.Ryoma is arrogant by nature, yet can be very childish at times. It is also unafraid almost to the point of recklessness, but rarely gets angry or out of control. His technique is a lot and he can do what the opponents do.
Kunimitsu Tezuka
He is very serious, and is strict in enforcing the order as the captain of the Seigaku tennis team, and is considered to be a tennis player of National level.His techniques are the Zero-Shiki Serve and his signatue techniques of Tezuka Zone.
Takeshi Momoshiro
He is a player and a friend who always gives 100% support and comes through for his teammates. His skill to read the opponent's movements and to observe their viewpoints and phrase and his signature move is "Dunk Smash".
Shuichiro Oishi
He is smooth and logical in a match, and while he is not the greatest of single players, as a doubles partner, he is the perfect counterpart for the acrobatic Eiji. He is also the vice-captain of the tennis club, and his only special shot is the "Moon Volley."
Sadaharu Inui
He is normally viewed bringing a notebook around, in which he scrawls all the data he has collected -- including personal data. One of Inui's most notable traits is his fondness to brew horrible vegetable juices, which he uses mostly in practice as the penalty for players who fail the training menus.
Kaido Kaoru
He normally plays the Singles 3 position, although he is most often placed in one of the Double slots. He has mostly known for his "Snake Shot", his play style and technique. In spite of his strong character, he does have a soft spot for animals.
Shusuke Fuji
He usually looks very casual and in control, whereas his opponent is pushing himself to the limit, who knows how to save his energy during plays, or that he does not really care about tennis itself. Most of his techniques are designed to specifically counter an opponent's strength, which gives him the title of a genius.
Eiji Kikumaru
He is a genial, sweet-tempered and sociable personality and the youngest of a large family. He is mostly famous for his acrobatic play and his cheerful character. Other than his well known style of that, he has his own signature smash move called "Kikumaru Beam".
Takashi Kawamura
He is presently a third year student, and in this year he has finally made it as one of the tennis team's regulars. He also works at his father's sushi shop. His trademark quote is "Burning!" and a forceful base liner, mostly using his power to defeat his opponents.
School Rivals:
Fudomine
It is the only public school that appears in the series, all the others that are confidential . Rumors surrounding the dark tennis team from a year before the current timeline of the series, the team were forced to remove the excess of "an incident involving violence "and before that, the team was judged relatively unremarkable.
St. Rudolph
It is introduced during the Tokyo Prefectural Tournament, where they face Seigaku in the quarter-finals. The school itself recruit only students who are gifted in tennis and only practice together once a week.
Hyotei
It is considered to be a rival school of Seigaku. The two teams compete against each other in the first match of the Kanto region and Tournament in the second match of the National Tournament. With Keigo Atobe as their leader, the club's tennis Hyotei is over 200 members strong.
Shitenhoji
It is one of the strongest teams in the Kansai Region . Although Rikkai lost in the semi-finals last year, put up the strongest fight against Rikkai than any other team last year.
Rikkaidai
It is considered to be the best middle school team in Japan, winning the Japanese National Tournament for the last two years.
Yamabuki
It is a national team of tennis caliber introduced during the semi-finals of the Tournament Prefectural Tokyo, where they beat easily Fudomine due to the fact that team members Fudomine were in a car wreck before the match.
Higa
It is the first team from Okinawa Prefecture to do so after Kyushu tournament in twenty-six years. All their players are Okinawan martial artists, and can incorporate his experience in his style of tennis. They have a rather bad attitude, and are not afraid to use nasty methods to win.
