The anime series is created by studio Satelight and produced by Yasushi Akimoto. It is based on the group Jpop star AKB48 the same producer, including many songs are played in the episodes.
The story takes place in the future and tells the story of beginner's young singers who want to become a member to the pop group interstellar AKB0048, futuristic successor AKB48, in a society where art and music are prohibited.
