Yuri on Ice

Yuri on Ice is an anime television series of the Studios Mappa from the year 2016. The sports series appears parallel to its broadcast in Japan internationally via streaming services and turns around a young figure skater.

The Japanese figure skater Yuri Katsuki made it at 23 years, at the 2014 Winter Olympics to participate and where they meet his idol, the Russians Victor Nikiforov. However, Yūri is in bad shape and is last in the overall evaluation. Soon afterwards, he did so at the national championship and another very similar, so that he was defeated and returned home after five years of study and training.

In his hometown Hasetsu he is indeed friendly welcome from family and friends - in it, despite the defeats a celebrity - but he pulls back first in the bathhouse his family. Finally, he takes courage again and runs a program, which he has done with Victor Nikiforov, only in front of his childhood friend in the ice rink of the city. But their daughters have filmed him and upload the video on the Internet, where his impressive copy of the famous Russian figure skater spreads quickly. Finally, she sees Victor Nikiforov himself and then comes to Hasetsu to train Yūri. He is thrilled to be trained by whom he has been worshiping since childhood. But Victor is surprisingly strict, but also open-minded.

After Victor's arrival, Yuri Plisetsky soon followed him. The 15-year-old won the youth world championship, hates Yūri for his failure at the Olympic Games, and now wanted to celebrate a successful debut among the adults under Victors Training, as promised by him. He now calls for Victor to propose a competition between the two athletes. In the preparation under Victor's guidance, both have to develop a new approach to figure skating - Yuri less aggressive, Yūri more passionate. Finally, Yūri can convince himself in the competition and Victor remains his coach.


Yuri on Ice Characters:


Yuri Katsuki
He is a 23-year-old figure skater who is very talented and has been skating since a very young age. He was inspired to skate with the goal to become like his idol, Victor Nikiforov. One year prior to the start of the series, he was Japan's top figure skater and his greatest skating assets being his peculiar sense of rhythm and unique step.

Victor Nikiforov
He is a 27-year-old figure skating genius and living legend from Russia who Yuri K. has idolized since he was a child. Ever since his teenage years, He has won numerous competitions, including winning five consecutive Grand Prix Finals, following a string of victories in Nationals and the European Figure Skating Championships. At the start of the series, he won the World Championships consecutively five times and people begin to question what he will do next season, as he is approaching the retirement age for figure skaters.

Yuri Plisetsky
He is a 15-year-old Russian figure skater and a rink mate to Victor Nikiforov. He has been a figure skating prodigy since he was young and has won three consecutive Junior World Championships. He won first place in the junior circuit during the year Yuri K. lost in the Grand Prix Final and is now preparing to skate in the senior circuit. Due to the fact that he surpasses his peer group, Yuri is arrogant due to his great skills, and his harsh personality earned him the nicknamed "Russian Punk," but he is also known as the "Russian Fairy" because of his good looks. During his stay in Japan, he is called "Yurio" to differentiate from Yuri K.

Phichit Chulanont
A 20-year-old figure skater from Thailand, Phichit was Yuri K.'s rink mate and collage roommate during their time in Detroit, thus becoming good friends and even taught each other some words in their native languages. After Yuri K. left Detroit, Phichit returns to Thailand and is currently training at the Imperial World ice rink in Bangkok. Phichit is kind and cheerful, and loves going on SNS and takings selfies, sharing his passion with his friends, Guang-Hong and Leo.

Seung Gil Lee
A 20-year-old figure skater from Korea, Seung Gil is a cool and collected young man who only ever thinks about ice skating and improving his skills. Due to his handsome looks, he's very popular, especially with women, but pays no attention to his fans.

Kenjirō Minami
A 17-year-old figure skater from Japan, Minami is a bright and innocent skater who is just making his senior debut and is a huge fan of Yuri K., whom he greatly idolize. He lives in Fukuoka, and his parents are doctors and he has an older brother currently studying at a medical college. During the season Yuri K. lost his first Grand Prix Finale, Minami had beaten Yuri K. once at Nationals and is considered the number one star among young skaters.
